Syracuse women's lacrosse dominate in Dome opener

After winning its two early-season road games handily, the #2 Orange won big at home for the first time this year against the Canisius College Golden Griffins 18-6 Sunday afternoon.

Alyssa Murray (two goals, four assists) led the way assisting on the first goal to Kelly Cross (two goals) just over five minutes into the game. After that SU's lead piled up faster than the snowbanks on Walnut St.
“We were just excited to play,” Murray said after another impressive offensive performance.
The Orange did a good job consistently controlling the face-offs and played aggressively, pushing the pace from the onset . Kayla Treanor (three goals, two assists) Gabby Jaquith (two goals, one assist) and Katie Webster (one goal) helped run a systematic, physically superior offense against the over-matched Griffin. But it was one of the smallest players on the field that flashed the most promising physical potential.
The 5-foot-2-inch freshman Taylor Poplawski (four goals, one assist) was a blur on the field weaving in and out of opponents and teammates alike. On a veteran team with big goals don't be surprised if the highly touted recruit from local power, Christian Brothers Academy (two state titles, Under Armor All-American) becomes an important piece.
Syracuse's next game is the programs first ACC game on Sunday, Feb. 23rd (1:00pm) at the University of Virginia.

Game Notes:
The 1,442 person attendance was fourth highest in school history
