Victor Robles Proves he is Clutch and Humble

It was the bottom of the 11th, the Syracuse Chiefs were 1 out away from blowing the chance to win the series against the Pawtucket Red Sox, runner at 3rd. The batter: 21-year old Dominican, Victor Robles.

Even though Robles had the best batting average of the entire roster, he had gone 1 for 5 during the game, and he had been injured (hyperextended left elbow) for most of the season. The youngster prove that the moment wasn't to big for him, he singled through left field and tied the game.

"I felt good. It felt good more than to help me, help the team and keeping our chances to win the game," Robles said after the game.

That hit extended the game one extra inning were Pedro Severino through a sacrifice fly was able to get the winning RBI in the bottom of the 12th. With that win the Chiefs won 3 out of 4 games in the series.

"We are improving, we are playing better as a team, everybody is contributing and helping in the way we can," Robles said. "When we play as a team it gives us a better chance to win, and at the end that's what you want."

Even though he is the youngest player in the team, and many experts claim he is the best. Robles says humility is an important part of being successful.

"My idol has always been David Ortiz, we don't play the same position but always admire him inside and outside the game how he has always been such a humble player, with all of his accomplishments," Robles said.

Sindey Jones X-Factor Video Commentary And Transcript

By: Kylan Watson

The Philadelphia Eagles are the defending Super-Bowl champions, and they are not immune to the impact of losing key players in free agency. The biggest loss for the Eagles will be the loss of veteran nickel cornerback Patrick Robinson.  He had some big playoff performances and grabbed a momentum turning pick 6 against the Vikings in the NFC Championship Game. However, the loss of Robinson can be minimized by the immergence and health of Sidney Jones.

Many people may not know who Sidney Jones is, he was a second round pick in the 2017 draft. He is very talented but suffered from a torn Achilles while he played for the Washington Huskies. He has been immerging in training camp they have lined him up on the outside and in the slot. He is supposed to be an impact player, and if he can be the impact player the Eagles need him to be then the Eagles will have depth at the cornerback position. If the Eagles have depth at the cornerback position, then they will once again be a top-3 defense in the NFL this season.

A SID Life for Me

A SID Life for Me

Seton Hall SID Bobby Mullen

Many people think that sports teams at all levels are cut and dry. You have the players, the coaches and then the fans. However, in the world of college athletics, there is a member of the team that goes unnoticed. This team member puts in hours and hours to his craft, making sure every detail is perfected. Even with all this hard work, this member of the team manages to stay out of the spotlight, the only way you would know of them is if you directly deal with them. This team member is none other than the Sports Information Director.
The Sports Information Director is one of the most important parts of a college athletic program. The SID’s as they’re more commonly known as, are the public relations person for their assigned teams. This means they handle everything from producing media guides, to using STATCREW systems to keep stats and even running the social media accounts for the team. One of these humble individuals is Bobby Mullen, the Associate Director of Communications for Seton Hall University.
Mullen, who just recently in 2015 joined the Pirates, is no newcomer to the Sports information field. Before Seton Hall, he was a Sports Information Director at the University of Connecticut and his alma mater Northeastern.
Outside of managing the communications of Seton Hall’s Women’s Basketball, Men’s Soccer, Softball and assisting with Men’s Basketball, one of Mullen’s biggest roles is directing the Pirate Sports Network, the student run athletic broadcasting network at the Hall. Mullen is in charge of an organization of over 20 students who live produce many of the Seton Hall home sporting events, from soccer and volleyball in the fall, to softball and baseball in the spring. The PSN students also assist with Men’s Basketball game productions in various roles. “It’s our goal to give everyone who wants to have the chance to be on air a shot,” said Mullen. “Some students are more naturally comfortable in front of the camera and we end up leaving them in more heavily but our overall goal is to develop everyone to the point of being ready.”
While Mullen loves attending all of his team’s games and helping out the student-athletes, his favorite part of his job is the PSN. “I think it’s important to allow as many students as we can the opportunity to pick up some real experience that will help them break into the broadcasting field as well as the sports information world as office assistants.” Mullen continues to show kids how to work the right way, always holding his students to the highest of standards.

A Play-By-Play Interview: Trey Bender

Trey Bender has been involved with the sports industry for as long as he can remember.
“My dad was a sport’s master to begin with. At a young age probably 5,6,7 years old I was always around the business,” Bender said. From that point, Bender knew that a career in sports was in his future.

As he explored career options, a play-by-play announcer soon became a natural fit. “Its almost as if I don’t know where I would be or what I would do if I wasn’t calling play by play. I love what I do and I just can’t imagine doing anything else,” Bender said.

Working for the ESPN family of networks, Bender has learned a lot over his career including being exposed to sports he knew little about. Bender stated that a big part of being successful is to become equally knowledgeable in sports like lacrosse, water polo, and swimming, in addition to baseball, basketball, and football.

His advice for aspiring sports broadcasters is to pursue a passion and stay true to following their own path.

Basketball Beat with Donna Ditota

The 6-foot-1-inch Donna Ditota is a former college athlete and sports editor at St. Bonaventure University. Her unique perspective of the game gives her insight into the life of a college athlete.

Before covering the Syracuse University men’s basketball team for Syracuse.com and The Post Standard, Ditota’s first job was for a business magazine. She credits her time with the magazine as a hands-on learning experience from researching to reporting.

Since then she has been with Syracuse.com and The Post Standard for 32 years.

Although there is a challenge in covering the same beat for many years, Ditota describes herself as an inquisitive person and interested in many things.

“You do get to a point where you try to think of some new angles, new ways to approach things, new ways to tell what is essentially the same story. I’m curious about what is happening in games, people in the games and I much rather write a sidebar after a game,” Ditota said.

An alum of St. Bonaventure University, Ditota’s excellence in sports journalism awarded her SBU’s distinguished John Domino Award.

Ditota’s advice for breaking into the business is to gain as much as experience as possible. She also emphasizes on getting work published and working for an organization that will help you grow.

Burton- Interview with Media Jessica Filipek

By Kayla Burton SYRACUSE, N.Y.

Jessica Filepek is the Lehigh University Multimedia Assistant Director, where she overlooks all media, from filming athletic events, to pre-game and post-game analysis, to live-streaming games, and additionally creating both feature and hype videos for Lehigh's social media platform.

She does it all.

For four years, Filipek has worked at Lehigh as an aspiring to be a producer. Because her job is extremely independent, having to do multiple tasks at hand, she is used to being reliable to keep things moving.

"It's a lot of work for sure," said Filipek. "You're constantly being put into different roles, whether due to the shortness of staff or simply because it needs to get done and I'm the only one there to do the job, I'll do it. It usually never goes as planned but I love knowing I'm prepared to get the job done."

Filipek said that although the job can be hectic at times, her confidence as a producer has most certainly increased as the years went on. Filipek said her skills have grown tremendously, working with different technical pieces while also directing students to complete a well-done production.

"I love seeing students go from knowing absolutely nothing to eventually coming into the office or on they field and pick up a camera, knowing exactly what they are doing that day because they know they can do it." Said Filipek.

One of the most rewarding components of Filipek's job is knowing as a woman in the sports industry, she is more than capable of taking measures into her own hands, needing no-one but herself to get the job done.
