Nobody Should Be The Muhammad Ali of Anything

Yesterday, I had a conversation with a member of the Montreal media about whether the former Montreal Canadiens defenceman PK Subban was the Muhammad Ali of our generation. PK Subban is a flashy player, people love him, he made a $10 million dollar donation to the Montreal Children's Hospital which is the largest philanthropic donation made by a Canadian athlete in history.

But that does not make him Muhammad Ali, whose work for civil rights can never be understated. He stood up to being drafted in the Vietnam war and is universally loved and respected the world over.

We have athletes in much higher tax brackets than PK Subban who, god bless them for their charitable achievements, they don't get nearly get the same praise and they don't nearly deserve the same praise from Muhammad Ali. We should take this as a lesson. We shouldn't be crowning anybody the Muhammad Ali because Ali, god bless his soul, is too great.
