The issue with Vegas sports teams

Transcription and Video by Brianna Adams

SYRACUSE, N.Y.--Now you have a lot of teams that are starting to decide if they want to move locations. You have the St. Louis Rams that were between LA and Vegas, they chose LA. Oakland Raiders between--well they just wanted to move to Vegas or somewhere--they're still in Oakland. But there is one team that actually made it to Vegas, a new NHL team called the Las Vegas Bones. They're so Vegas that their logo has dice in it, it's a skull and two dice.

Now the issue with gambling and Vegas and sports, if you have a home team--a home sports team--in Vegas then you're just enforcing the whole sports betting thing. I get that it's legal in Vegas but you're going to have more issues like one of the biggest sports scandals of all time in 1919. White Sox players were paid to fix the world series against the Reds. Moving even more forward, 1989 Pete Rose of the Reds was charged--or accused--of betting against his own team.

Now the issue with having a team straight in Vegas, you're going to have more illegal sports betting. You're going to have a lot more gamblers trying to get athletes to fix their own games. You're going to lose the heart of sports; you're going to lose the passion. The surprise, knowing that a team is going to win instead of rooting for your team to win, instead of seeing the underdog win. You're going to lose the element of surprise in sports if you have more Vegas teams.
