Baseball: More than a game, interview with Jim Weber

Baseball, America’s pastime, has taken on many transformations over its lifespan that have made it the game it is today.  Jim Weber, broadcaster for the Triple-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, the Toledo Mud Hens, has seen the evolution of the sport like few others have.  Weber has called more games than most people watch in their entire lifetime and has not missed a game in years.

“Believe it or not I’m still around, this is my 45thyear,” Weber said. “If everything goes as I’m hoping it will, next year I will hit 6,000.”

Weber got his start with Mud Hens in 1975 after making transition from music to sports. Weber was a drummer in a successful band while making the leap into a field he had not been involved with before.

While reflecting on his early years in his broadcast career Weber said he is happy with the way his career has panned out adding that this is not work for him but a passion.

Weber will continue to call Mud Hens games as long he can. For Weber baseball is more than a job but a lifestyle.  His story is the perfect example of why sports matter.
