Soccer Helps Young Boy Discover His Lost Identity

Veer Badani, July 18 2019

Sports is one of the most popular entrainment industries today. But for Veer Badani, the love for sports goes deeper than simply entertainment. It was an identity.

Badani was born in India then adopted at two months old by a couple living in Los Angeles, California. For the first ten years of his life, Badani lived in LA, however, at age 10, Badani and his family moved back to India. This is where Badani first came into conflict with his identity. Badani claimed, “And suddenly I became this American kid. Whereas when I was in America I was the Indian kid.” And so, he was split between his Indian and American halves.

Then came along soccer. Badani became invested in the Manchester United Soccer team at 10 years old and that was when he found his love for soccer and where he felt at home. He realized that’s what he wanted to do because that’s where he felt like he belonged. Fast forward to 2017 when Badani saw the Manchester United team play in London for the first time. It was then that he realized that this really was his true identity and this is where he belonged. In the world of soccer.
