Find A Story, Or Let It Find You
“Life is a game, baseball is serious.” The first and most memorable quote that Augie Casillo gave to begin our conversation. Casillo grew up in Canastota, NY home to the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Yes, you guessed it, he loves boxing just as much as baseball. He is a fan of Muhammad Ali as well as Gerry Cooney and recalls one of his favorite moments being the Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Roberto Durán fight. Currently, he is retired, but oversees a storage facility for a small portion of the day, two hours in the morning and one in the afternoon. When asked his favorite thing about retirement, he replied simply, yet gratefully “my wife, all the time that I missed with my wife.”
Originally Casillo was a fan of the Atlanta Braves but switched to the Washington Nationals because they are a Triple-A affiliate of the Syracuse Chiefs. Although he is unhappy with the Chiefs current performance and even suggested that they buy a tractor to pull their heads out of their butts, he was thrilled to be attending tonight’s game with his pastor and some other close friends.
