Boys and Girls Clubs of Syracuse Accept Generous Donation

By Ashtyn Hiron SYRACUSE, N.Y. --- The Boys and Girls Clubs of Syracuse threw the first pitch at NBT Bank stadium before accepting a $25,000 check at the Syracuse Chiefs game.

John Watt, President and CEO of NBT, and Rick Shirtz, Regional President at NBT Bank, stood on the mound to present The Boys and Girls Clubs of Syracuse a large sum of money. Pat Driscoll,
Executive director of the Boys and Girls Club of Syracuse, felt proud to accept the donation from NBT Bank. “We like to think that all of our local corporations, especially NBT make a significant investment in seeing young people succeed and I think that speaks volumes for our community,” Driscoll said. “NBT Bank has been very committed to the Central New York Community and being able to stand with John Watt and Rick Shirtz to thank them for something like this is pretty significant.”

Driscoll has been connected to the Syracuse Chiefs for many years as he used to work in the Chiefs visiting club house. But on this Monday afternoon Driscoll sat in the stands, surrounded by dozens of smiling members of the girls and boys club, who will benefit from the donation that the non-profit received. When asked what the club would use the money for Driscoll said, “Our goal is try to increase membership 10 percent every year but at the same time we want to open programs young people can enjoy and they can flourish at.”
