Tom Kirkland is an American Sportscaster/Producer working outside the US, in a country that he doesn't speak its language, Spain. He is currently working in the Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS), as the main play by play commentator for the olympic events.
"Culturally it is a different world, learning the language has been hard. And professionally it has really different from the jobs I have had in the past" said Kirkland regarding his current job. "In the US you are or you are not an expert in a specific sport, here I need to have a bigger preparation before the event because many of them include sports I have never watched."
Kirkland, graduated from Boston University, and is a former employee from CNN. He has accepted the challenge of being the play by play commentator of Olympic Broadcasting Services, which includes the preparation for the Olympic Summer and Winter Games. So he is a pretty busy man working throughout the qualification process for the most important prize for many athletes, a gold olympic medal.
With all of that even though it has been a different kind of job Kirkland believes he now has a better understanding of global sports. And he is grateful because this experience has helped him grown and be better at what he does.
So that's Tom Kirkland a risk-taker that has gone to the unexpected and has been rewarded by being a better professional, and learning to adapt in this business.
