Syracuse Stuns Pawtucket After Trailing Three Separate Times

The Syracuse Chiefs (44-63) came back in thrilling fashion after trailing 7-0 to beat the Pawtucket Red Sox (48-57) 11-10 in 13 innings.

Syracuse looked down and out early on in the game. Fatigue from the previous night could have played a huge factor in the slow start. The Chiefs had to take a bus ride from Durham late last night and arrived the next morning in Syracuse around 10 a.m. A rain delay caused a late finish to the series finale which forced Syracuse to take a red-eye bus ride trip from North Carolina to New York.

The Red Sox scored six runs in the top of the 2nd to jump ahead to a 6-0 lead.

An RBI single by Cole Sturgeon increased Pawtucket’s lead to 7-0 in the 3rd inning.

The comeback began with a Pedro Severino solo home run in the bottom of the 4th to cut the deficit to 7-1.

Six more unanswered runs by the Chiefs tied the game up at seven in the bottom of the eighth inning.

As the top of the 10th came around, rain started drizzling down from the sky. Pawtucket’s Oscar Hernandez was able to score Tony Renda on a fielder’s choice to give the Red Sox an 8-7 lead.

However, as the rain stopped falling, a wild pitch by Fernando Rodriguez Jr., scored Victor Robles to tie the game up at eight in the 11th inning.

The Red Sox were able to add two more runs in the top of the twelfth inning to take a 10-8 lead.

Pawtucket had a third chance to close out the game but the Chiefs would not go away. They were able to tie the game up again on a Jacob Wilson sacrifice fly and a Jose Marmolejos double.

Finally, in the bottom of the 13th inning, a throwing error by Pawtucket’s Ivan De Jesus scored the winning running for the Chiefs, sending them home with an 11-10 victory.

The two teams will face off again tomorrow at 6:35 p.m in Syracuse.
