Bonding over baseball

Young children are impressionable and the distractions they face at home, school or other issues that are out of their control can drag many down.

A baseball game transports Victor away from all the noise of the outside world. It’s not demanding his attention, but letting him become a part of the game. Victor doesn’t have the same opportunities as other children his age and his uncle, Dale, wants to make sure he still enjoys being a kid.

Dale’s desire is that his nephew appreciates these moments and leaves the distractions at bay for the duration of the game.

The uncle and nephew duo traveled an hour from their hometown of Ithaca to enjoy the Syracuse Chiefs baseball game together.

Dale considers bonding moments with his nephew important to being a role model in his nephew’s life. From hitting, playing catch and dreaming up imaginary scenarios on the field the two enjoy spending time together.

During the game, the Chiefs hit a homerun and Victor springs up with his hands in the air, turns to his uncle and slaps him a high five. Years from now, Victor might not remember who hit that homerun tonight, but he will always think fondly of his time spent at the diamond with his uncle.
