Talking to Recent Graduate Corey Crisan

Corey Crisan is a Masury, Ohio native. He just graduated from Newhouse in May. Currently, he is covering the minor league Mahoning Valley Scrappers. The Scrappers are an affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. He chose Newhouse because of the legacy and the network of alumni.

"You'll be amazed with the help you get from Newhouse alums," Crisan said.

Crisan loves baseball. He grew up playing the game that included Little League. Growing up in northeast Ohio, he’s about halfway between Cleveland and Pittsburgh. His favorite sports teams are: the Cleveland Indians, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cleveland Cavaliers, Ohio State Buckeyes and Los Angeles Rams. Although the Rams aren’t local, he started rooting for them because of his father. Crisan’s become very versatile since graduating from Newhouse. He dabbles in web, social media, podcasting and hosting.

“I’ve covered every level of baseball except Major League Baseball,” he said.

One of his favorite sports journalists of all time is Peter Gammons. Gammons is a sportswriter and media personality who mainly covers baseball.

“I like Gammons because he’s factual with no bias and clear, cut and dry,” Crisan said.
He also enjoys Pedro Gomez from, Brian Kenny and Mike Tirico. Crisan’s dream job is to cover the Cleveland Indians or the Pittsburgh Pirates as a beat reporter. He believes that anyone getting into journalism should focus on speed and accuracy when creating content.
“Never, ever, ever miss deadline,” Crisan added.

He also believes every journalist should be professional, active, cognizant, personable and curious.
