Brian Magoffin is the Sports Information Director at Springfield College, a small Division III private college in Springfield, Massachusetts. For most, taking the step up to the Division I level is a dream, but for Magoffin, he is quite content with his current situation.
Magoffin prefers the Division III level, and has found the success his teams have found more rewarding. He commented, "Not being driven by money or the pressure that comes with trying to chase the dream of playing professionally, DIII student-athletes compete for the love of their sport as well as maintaining focus on schoolwork and being a well-rounded member of the college community."
With Springfield having just above 2,000 undergrad students, and 31% of the student population being athletes, Magoffin is able to build a connection with most of his student-athletes in a community where sports are king. Magoffin feels a more home-like and personal relationship with his athletic teams. "My favorite part about my job is interacting with the student-athletes and coaches, creating meaningful relationships," said Magoffin. "The experiences and stories I've been able to tell have made my time here very fulfilling professionally and personally."
