The Chiefs Couple

At the Syracuse Chiefs game on July 30th, more than 3,000 fans filled the NBT Bank Stadium.
Across the aisle from me in the stands, two fans stuck out. Two Syracuse residents, Barb
and Charlie, who were wearing matching colorful Chiefs jerseys that were extremely unique.

Barb and Charlie were both born and raised in Syracuse, New York. Both of them grew up with
families who followed the Chiefs. After growing up in Syracuse, Barb moved to Dallas, Texas
for a few years before moving back to Syracuse in the 70’s, where she met Charlie.

After meeting in Syracuse, the couple always wanted something fun to do with their time
together so they found a mutual love in attending Chiefs game. Ever since, the couple has been
attending games for many years.

Growing up a die hard Yankees fan, Charlie grew up following the Chiefs as they were the
Yankees affiliate from 1967 to 1977. After meeting Charlie, Barb soon became a Yankees fan too.
Even though the Chiefs have had a bad season this year, Charlie says he loves the atmosphere at
the NBT Bank Stadium and says that him and Barb always have a great time attending games.
“The General Manager does a great job. There is always something going on. It’s a nice, friendly
atmosphere and a fun place to spend our time.”

The Syracuse natives have already been to a majority of Chiefs games this year and Charlie and
Barb look forward to attending more games as long as the Chiefs are in Syracuse.
