Chiefs Complete Comeback, Win in 13 Innings

SYRACUSE, N.Y -- After giving up seven runs through three innings
to the Pawtucket Red Sox, things looked grim for the Chiefs. However, from the
fourth inning on, the Chiefs scored seven unanswered runs to tie up the game,
including a three-run home run from Yadiel Hernandez. After battling back and
forth for 12 innings, shortstop Bengie Gonzales took the mound in the top of the 13th and threw a scoreless 1-2-3 inning. Next inning with the game on the line, Gonzalez put a hard hit ball in to play to short that was thrown
away by the Red Sox, scoring Irving Falu to bring the Chiefs to a 11-10 win after nearly five hours of play.
Turning
Point: With both teams, combining for 35 hits, no hit was bigger Jose
Marmolejos one out double to keep the Chiefs alive in the 12th.
Inside the Numbers
- Six players drove in runs for the Chiefs including three on a home run by Yadiel Hernandez. Pedro Severino also homered for the Chiefs.
- The Chiefs were clutch at the plate delivering five two out RBI’s.
- Jimmy Cordero provided a punch out of the bullpen, throwing two scoreless innings and racking up three strikeouts.
- Rusney Castillo lead the way for the Red Sox driving in 3 including a home run, bumping his RBI total to 48 on the year.
- Victor Robles went three for six, scoring three times in his 12th game back from the DL.
Notes
- With this win, the Chiefs improve to 3-1 over their last four.
- The teams combined to leave 71 men on base, Chiefs with 33, Red Sox with 38.
- Alejandro De Aza went 0 for seven, ending his 28 game on base streak.
- Gonzalez not only drove in the winning run, but also picked up a win on the hill, the first of his career.
