Keir Chapman SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Mason Nesbitt’s dream is to someday write for the Los Angeles Times. However, he currently serves as the Sports Information Director at his alma mater, The Master’s University in Santa Clarita, California.

It was not a position Nesbitt would have seen himself taking in years past. He had served as The Santa Clarita Valley Signal’s Sports Editor for nearly three years, a role much more in line with his ultimate goal. However, a more mature Nesbitt, one who was married this past February, found the idea of a consistent nine to five job appealing.

Nesbitt discovered that he still has opportunities to grow as a writer, even though it is not the sole focus of his new role.

“I still write gamers and features about athletes who I get to know and build relationships with,” Nesbitt said. “And the pace has allowed me to take on a number of freelance writing opportunities on the side.”

One such freelance opportunity has been with The Daily News in Los Angeles, California. There, Nesbitt was no longer the top of the food chain, and was once again writing for an editor. As he has always done, Nesbitt used this experience to become better at his craft.

“It was nice to be working under an editor for the first time in several years because it forced me to raise my game and humbled me,” Mason said. “I’m in need of editing too.”
